This condition causes pain associated with costochondritis, as well as swelling of the rib cartilage. WebbTietze syndrome is a rare cause of chest pain. The condition was first described by Tietze in 1921 as a benign, nonsuppurative painful swelling of the superior chondrosternal joints. Costochondritis, a differential diagnosis for Tietze syndrome, characterized by painful, tender, but nonswollen chondrosternal joints, is more common.
